The Tarzan/Lone Ranger(/Zorro) Adventure Hour was my favorite Saturday morning cartoon. At the time I never even realized the Lone Ranger also narrated Rocky & Bullwinkle, which I also enjoyed.

Hah! An army of aunts would make for an… interesting story. I’d listen to it!

(Most ants are indeed female, and all of the ants in Leiningen’s ant adversary army would have been. Not that we humans necessarily think of ants as *gendered,* really. But still. It is what it is.)

The Tarzan/Lone Ranger Adventure Hour! You’ve just filled me with a compulsive need to wake up early on a Saturday and eat a bunch of sugared cereal! Glad you like the episode, I expect we’ll be returning to Escape and “Mr. Darnoc” again.

I really love this. To be fair, you had me at “ants.” Ants will inherit the earth. (Cockroaches would, but they are not that organized.) The least realistic aspect of this episode, to me, was just how fortified Leiningen’s plantation was. I mean, jeez, it’s been a long day, but did I hear that wrong? Does he have a wall-of-flame defense system set up? Irrigation systems I kind of get, although it’s a rainforest, so maybe it’s actually drainage or… You know, maybe that doesn’t make sense, either. Huh.

Aside from the sheer size of the colony of ants depicted (and, okay, the size of the individuals), the ants seemed pretty realistic. I kept waiting for them to bivouac or something, army ant style… (The did not.)

I *did* like the POV shifting. It made the story more interesting. However, because it was in the past tense, and partially narrated by the title character, some suspense was lost due to the fact that said title character was clearly alive to tell the tale. In a different story he might have been a ghost, but this was not that kind of story. Just a down-to-earn man vs. insect hoard story. So, clearly the ants weren’t going to really win. (Oh well. Another time, ladies.)
