This one was so good! I wish the fire threat was better crafted, like, he can still lock the door, but if he had made a molotov cocktail and had a candle lit, it would have done something, but he was so far away from the mattress, etc, it just didn't add anything to the story or add any suspense. 4 out of 4.

I loved the status changes between the two. And you got the impression that she had NEVER had to be brave and clever before like this, and was more capable than she thought that she was. Because she had to be. Totally stood the test of time - I'm in my car in 2019 enjoying it just as much as if it had been whatever year it was made in.

I just now got around to listening to this one, and enjoyed it quite a bit. I wouldn't call it a timeless classic, primarily because the resolution was made obvious at such an early point (though apparently not to everyone, to judge by your commentary afterward). [SPOILER WARNING, in case someone is even later listening to this than I was (and is foolish enough to read the comments before listening to the episode).] As soon as she said the radio was a sending and receiving set, I figured that somehow she was going to use it to try to notify the police. And then when her big speech included "Aren't you a guest of the Cannings in the little white-shingled house a mile off Highway 26 north of Accord?", I knew she had just done it. When the police finally do show up at the end, it seemed a little abrupt. The back-and-forth between Ether and Bishop in the second half of the show was great, as she momentarily seemed to gain the upper hand, and then he got it back. But since I was waiting for the police to arrive, I would have liked a little more build-up in suspense towards that happening — not just a matter of "Is he going to kill her family? How will she stop him?" but "Did the cops receive her broadcast (without, of course, explicitly stating this), and will she stop Bishop from killing her family before the cops get there?" (Maybe, a bit prior to the milkman, there could have been something like the sound of another car approaching for a few seconds of tension — as the listeners [or at least *ahem* those who had been paying attention] wonder "Is this the police?" — and then the sound of the car driving away, as it was just passing by.)

Despite the telegraphed-yet-still-abrupt ending, what elevated this above a typical crime thriller was the performance by Mercedes McCambridge. She was an amazing actor, and deserves to be better known than she is by the general populace. I've enjoyed every episode you've shared of hers (and I even found myself thinking, while listening to an episode *without* her, "This would be a lot better if Mercedes McCambridge were playing that part"). You will get no complaints from me (at least, not about her) if you continue to feature more episodes with her in the cast.

I also thought the actor who played Bishop was really good, and his voice sounded really familiar to me. Do you have any idea who the actor was? I tried Googling, but I couldn't find any cast member listed for this episode besides Mercedes McCambridge.
