I also love this serial, primarily because of Howard McNear. I am catching up on old episodes, and in Episode 44 the guys were delighted to discover the voice of Floyd the barber, but I don’t think they ever even mentioned him by name in these discussions. I love the Bob Bailey Johnny Dollars, and particularly the serials, but in this one I thought McNear stole the show! I am a relative newcomer to old time radio, but I have seen every episode of Andy Griffith, so his voice is probably the one I recognize most often. I was a little disappointed that he didn’t get more praise for this serial because he was truly hilarious!

Very fun. Really enjoyed the character of Jonny Dollar. Would love to see him rebooted in a Kolchak-type show, where he is trying to document the supernatural, but the company is always shutting him down.

Listening to this series reminded me of a story in The Poisoner's Handbook by Deborah Blum about a drunk with an insurance policy. I looked it up and found his name was Mike Malloy and this article comparing the character to the person http://www.mwotrc.com/rr2014_04/dollar.htm This was such fun! Thank you!

I'm a great fan of "Yours Truly Johnny Dollar". Having followed it through several stars I find Bob Bailey the best, even edging out the great Edmond O'Brien in the role of Johnny Dollar. "The Indestructible Mike Matter" has got to be one of the very best...mainly because of the hilariously funny Howard McNear. He plays roles in several other YTJD episodes, but this is the most memorable. Also fun to listen to is Allan Reed in the role of the villain here.

There is a 1982 interview with Bob Bailey's daughter, Roberta Goodwin, by John Dunning from a Denver CO. radio station that is really well done. I think I got it from a set of MP3s sold by Old Time Radio.

This was great. Prior to this, I had only heard one episode of "Johnny Dollar", one of the half-hour non-serialized ones. That one was fine, but this was a lot better.

Thank you for doing this five part story. Johnny Dollar was what originally got me into old-time radio. A radio station in my city (Calgary, Alberta) would play old radio shows at night and my brother and his college roommates would sometimes listen and he told me about this ridiculous show about an insurance guy named Johnny Dollar. I thought it would be fun to listen and laugh at the silly name, but I found that it was actually really enjoyable. And then I heard some other shows (they played a wide variety - X-1, Suspense, Our Miss Brown, The Great Gildersleeve, etc) and found that I enjoyed many of them. The comedies were often hard to get through, but the detective stories and the sci-fi stories and the suspense/horror stories were always fascinating to me. I would sometimes drive around for an extra ten minutes just to hear the end of a show before I got home. When I came across this podcast, I was overjoyed to be able to listen to people more knowledgeable than me talk about what I enjoyed and to be exposed to even more great shows I had never heard of.
All that to say, I love old time radio, and I especially love Johnny Dollar. Thank you for your podcast. It's great.
