I really enjoyed this. I had never listened to Night Beat before. Like Joshua, I found the sequence in the apartment tense and suspenseful. I was a little surprised that Eric was (at least initially) underwhelmed by this episode, and was glad to hear that he came around by the end of your discussion.

Also in the cast was Herb Ellis, who was the first Frank Smith on Dragnet for a few episodes (both radio and TV), before Ben Alexander took over the role, which he played for several years. Ellis also played various other roles on Dragnet. But I've only seen one of Ellis's TV Dragnets, and I haven't heard any of his radio episodes, so I don't know his voice to tell which character he was on this.
