This episode was just awful. Fully misogynistic, relying on tropes such as ‘prisoner is switched out’, ‘women are hysterical’, ‘women are jealous and deceitful’, etc.

It is really hard to listen to the gas-lighting by the warden, the victim blaming, abuse of power by the police, the stalking and torture of the woman, and then for it all to be justified with “she committed murder and lied about it because she just was too in love”. The murder was just an excuse for the hate.

Poorly written, just garbage. It is clear MORLS crew really enjoyed and so I can understand why they had to work so hard to justify and excuse the misogyny.

As the listener who requested “Pigeon In The Cage” two years ago, I found this to be the most demoralizing (no pun intended) MORLS podcast. Partly because I was so excited for the prospect of a discussion comparing the two Suspense episodes, only to hear crickets when Kelly alluded to it. But mostly because now mine is only the second-best listener-requested Suspense episode set in an elevator to be reviewed on this podcast.

Bravo, Kelly. Your selection was excellent.

I found it quite interesting (and a little surprising) that, in the course of the commentary after the episode, you both denounced AND perpetuated outdated stereotypes regarding women. If you think I’m incorrect, listen closely again…
