Jesse James is truthfully depicted as an awful murderer who is just a monster to even his ‘friends’. There wasn’t any tension at all and even the main characters were extremely unsympathetic. It was really weird to get these “poor Jesse” vibes from the episode.

Contrasted to the Parade from last time and this episode just fares really poorly. Eric was right on the money at first and should have held his ground. Also the idea that this episode has more than a passing acquaintance with the truth is pretty laughable. This episode is highly apocryphal.

Crime Classics! This is the most underrated show of OTR. I have a commute that takes me an hour each way (but don’t fret: I have an electric vehicle) and the best few weeks I spent in that car were the ones when I heard Crime Classics for the first time. Naturally, it was not a hit. Elliot Lewis had to take some strong criticism for having had the temerity to think that Americans might like historically accurate radio shows. Play that one with Beersheba. What a great mix of suspense and history!
