According to radio listings, the episode aired April 9, 1969. This appears to be the first season of "Theatre 10:30" which typically aired at 10:30pm weekdays on CBC.

A little bit of history of the show is found in a Montreal Gazette article from 11 August 1969:

Radio drama in favor at CBC
by Bernard Dube

Theatre 10.30, the half hour of nightly drama that CBC radio broadasts Monday to Friday, was conceived as an outlet for network regional stations -- like Montreal, Halifax, Winnipeg, Calgary and Vancouver -- with Toronto getting into the act only occasionally.

It was conceived also somewhat as a surprise to CBC's own radio drama producers, as CBM drama boss Earl Pennington -- who makes certain Montreal gets at least its share of the action -- recalls it.

He's preparing for Theatre 10.30's second season now, but remembers that early last year he was telling writers "there's no market here for half-hour plays and definitely not for serials."

'Serials welcome' said brass

Mercurially, someone higher up in CBC programming hierarchy, sent word down to the regions that the half-hour not only was back in programming favor but serials were especially welcome on what would be called Theatre 10.30.

Not for Pennington to question why, but to do or...

Most notable of his contributions in Theatre 10.30's first season were 10 consecutive Monday-to-Friday half-hours, spread over two weeks, tracing the lives of the 'Black Donnellys" in Lucan, Ontario, in the latter part of the last century...

This five-hour drama was written in serial form by David Windsor of Montreal, on whom Pennington counts for at least two five-part serials in the new season.

Black Donnellys remembered

Pennington sad the Donnellys are far from forgotten to this day in Ontario where they lie buried.

A distant relative of theirs, a young actor with the first name Donnelly, went looking for the site of their graves.

He said, no one in Lucan would give him directions to it and a policeman there suggested he get out of town.

So Pennington heard.

Another local writer, Jim Harris, is contributing a five-part script for Pennington and Theatre 10.30.

Harris wrote comedy, "The Call of the Hippie", which Pennington has produced for broadcast Sunday afternoon on Summer Stage, from 2:03 to 3 p.m. The cast is headed by Bob Peters, the tenor, essaying a straight acting role; Peggy Mahon and Henry Ramer, with Budd Knapp as narrator.

Bronstein entry

Another local contributor to Theatre 10.30 is Martin Bronstein, who has provided Pennington with what producer calls "a wild satirical comedy set in 1975." It is in five parts, set for October and titled The Laughing Death of Lonnie Neff.

Bronstein, one of the original writers of Funny You Should Say That, is himself laughingly alive and well and did California scene this summer.

To round out Pennington's current Montreal projects for the new network season is a September production, for CBC's Summer Stage, of the Maize, a script by Montrealer M. Charles Cohen that has already been done by the BBC.

Penning has more productions in various stages of progress -- from script to rehearsal to taping -- including documentaries, which he also supervises and one of which is expected to focus on Mayor Drapeau this fall.
