I save the MORLS for my weekend listening, so I'm a bit late to the party on this episode...
This was absolutely AMAZING.As you stated, the tension is so real...
While I'm aware of Eric's opinions about baths vs. showers from previous episodes, I enjoy nice hot bubble baths on the weekends and the MORLS is my choice for bathtime listening - that said, this had me wide-eyed, hugging my knees in the tub like a little kid while she struggled SO hard, call after call, while she prayed so intently, and while people on the other end answered so casually at first.
I definitely agree with Eric that Jan Miner's performance was just the pinnacle of radio performance. I've certainly heard "Sorry, Wrong Number," but this almost made me forget that I had.
I also agree that the setting of 30 minutes for the story and 30 minutes for the show was well-played. We are literally WITH her for the entire rollercoaster ride of the journey.
This is Top-10 material.
I want to thank Jillion for suggesting it, as well as you guys for running it, as I've never heard it and it really had me riveted the whole time.

...sadly, I would just like to add that my OTR listening buddy, Robin - my 15 year old Pomeranian - recently passed away. In April 2020 (around the time I discovered the MORLS, actually) he was diagnosed with both Congestive Heart Failure as well as diabetes. Cataracts from the diabetes soon caused him to be almost completely blind. The last three years he was on three meds for the CHF as well as two insulin injections per day, and he was a real champ, doing his best to not let those setbacks interfere with him living the best life he could. While he was very outgoing and adventurous, he loved to relax and listen to OTR with me while taking long car rides, or while waiting for me to get out of the aforementioned bubble bath. He always seemed at his most relaxed when I played OTR (except maybe when there were shrill screams).
Recently, age - along with his ailments and the Summer heat - began to take a heavy toll on him and I couldn't allow him to struggle simply to survive. I was right there with him when he took his last breath on July 19th at about 4:55 pm.
I miss him dearly, and I just don't think I'll ever enjoy listening to OTR alone quite as much as when he was listening along with me...

I could've sworn you had done 'Sorry, Wrong Number' before! I know I've heard it... and your show is the only OTR podcast I listen to. Perhaps you recommended it in one of your earlier shows and I took you up on it. You really haven't done it?? Promise me you guys'll review it before you stop the show, so that wherever you get to, it can be the final episode!

Just listened to this. First thought: if the play had stopped just a few seconds short, with the phone ringing, louder and louder…the wife yelling for it to stop, she doesn’t need to hear that her husband is dead, refusing to pickup, screaming…after working so hard to make the call, she CAN’T pick up…this would have made a great Lights Out.

final thought: please cover ‘Sorry, Wrong Number,’ sooner than later, while Long Distance is still ringing in my head. Pun intended.
