Volume II, Number 45 – Content Warning: Language and Horror

To begin with, build a room into which you deposit a set of pair-bonded human earthlings. Supply nesting materials and wait an appropriate amount of time for anxiety levels to normalize. Control for variations. When ready, begin the experiment.
          Procedure #1

  1. Euthanize one of the two subjects. Record and display operation to the subject’s a) partner, b) family group and c) social group.
  2. Immediately measure distress levels in a), b) and c). Express as grief-coefficient.
  3. Continue to measure a), b) and c) distress levels at intervals of 1 standard unit, 10 standard units, 100 standard units, 1000 standard units, and 10,000 standard units, controlling as far as possible for subject-loss through age-disintegration and self-destruction.
  4. After data collection euthanize superfluous subject.

         Procedure #2:

  1. Euthanize subjects simultaneously. Record and display operation to both subject’s a) family groups and c) social groups.
  2. Immediately measure distress levels in a) and b). Express as grief-coefficient.
  3. Continue to measure a) and b) distress levels at intervals of 1 standard unit, 10 standard units, 100 standard units, 1000 standard units, and 10,000 standard units, controlling as far as possible for subject-loss through age-disintegration and self-destruction.

Record objective distress-levels as precisely as possible. When ambiguities arise, interpretation should be weighted in the following manner:

  1. Autonomic bodily expressions
  2. Willful motor expressions
  3. Nonwillful verbal expressions
  4. Willful verbal expressions

It is suggested by these authors that to ensure maximum possible information, two experimental strands be followed in parallel, as in Practicum 1 above, with the preexisting duration of the pair-bond as an additional variable. [15% of final grade]
