The first episode of the TV show Emergency! (1972) dealt with the fact that firefighters and ambulance crews could not provide meaningful medical help, and with the legislative fight to pass paramedic legislation. This script was based on the efforts that in real life had led to California Governor Ronald Reagan signing the Wedworth-Townsend Act in 1970. I guess Canada was just ten years or so behind the U.S.

Wow I remember this from Alfred Hitchcock Presents. “Breakdown” was made in 1955 and then a newer version of basically the same thing around 1985.
This is one of my fave episodes of MORLSP of all time. I’m shocked most people weren’t as impressed as I was. The last third was a roller coaster ride where I was in the car and never ahead of it – every time it looked like he would be saved I would have real hope and then when it looked like he wouldn’t be I would have real despair.
