I liked the guard’s throwaway line, “There’s nothing special, brother. Lots of guys axe their wives, Lots of them.” Perhaps that snub inspired Vincent Price’s Walter Mittyesque self-aggrandizement!

(I was also surprised that Eric didn’t bash him for being a poet!)

This one definitely gave me an “Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” vibe while I was listening to it. The condemned man hallucinating in the time it takes for him to die.
