Bland boring story. ACD brings in the phrenology stuff because he was a big believer in that. He totally bought into the whole, black people have smaller craniums, therefore are mentally inferior BS. He wasn’t a product of his time, he just held morally repugnant views. This is him telling the public he wasn’t going to do more Sherlock Holmes.
